Chemical Peels

Some people spend years throwing their money away on anti-aging creams and anti-acne serums that just don’t work. Others think the only way they can restore their youthful countenance is to undergo invasive procedures. With chemical peels at Aire MedSpa in Sarasota, FL, we can help you restore a radiant glow to your face without expensive creams or surgery. Here’s what you need to know about this rejuvenation treatment.

Before & After

Chemical peels are skin rejuvenation treatments that improve the health and appearance of the skin. During your treatment, a peel containing one or more acids is applied to your skin gently and left for a period of time. Then, it will be removed. A couple of days later, your skin will start to peel in response to the treatment, and you will notice your cosmetic concerns fading away.

Chemical peels work by chemically exfoliating the skin. Typically, your skin has a pH of roughly 5.5. However, a chemical peel increases the acidity of the skin to roughly 3.8. As the acidity of your skin increases, the bond between the superficial layer of your skin and your dermis weakens. Over the course of several days, the superficial layer of your skin that is made up of dead skin cells sheds, revealing the healthy, radiant skin of your dermis.

Depending on the strength of the peel you choose, your skin may start to peel two to three days after your treatment. Also, depending on the scope of your treatment, your skin may peel for two to five days. Therefore, it may take between four and seven days to see the results of your treatment.

During your initial consultation, we will assess the severity of your concerns and decide which peel is right for you. If you need a gentle peel but have moderate or severe concerns rather than mild concerns, you may need a few treatments scheduled several weeks apart. Therefore, you may not see your ideal results for a couple of months.

To see your final results as quickly as possible, follow all post-treatment instructions fully.

Our medical-grade peels are right for virtually everyone. We carry a wide range of peels and even have mild, effective peels that are safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, we offer chemical peels that are so gentle that they require little to no downtime. Here are some signs a chemical peel may be right for you:

A chemical peel may be right for you if you are concerned about hyperpigmentation. Depending on the severity of your hyperpigmentation, you may only need a light (superficial) chemical peel that only peels the uppermost layer of your skin. However, if your hyperpigmentation is severe, you may need a medium or deep (phenol) chemical peel.

A chemical peel may also be right for you if you are concerned about rough or bumpy skin. It will exfoliate imperfections causing texture issues so your makeup will apply smoother and your skin will be softer even without cosmetics.

Chemical peels don’t just exfoliate away small bumps on your skin. They can also be used to smooth away wrinkles because they induce extra collagen production. Collagen is a crucial, mesh-like protein that, among other functions, keeps your skin volumized and supported.

By increasing collagen growth in the treatment area, peels can safely and effectively eliminate wrinkles caused by extreme volume loss. However, you may need a couple of treatment sessions to smooth away deep volume loss-related wrinkles completely.

A chemical peel can do a lot more than eliminate hyperpigmentation. This skin rejuvenation treatment may also be right for you if you are concerned about freckles and other signs of sun damage. Just be aware that you may need a medium peel rather than a superficial peel if you are suffering from extensive sun damage.

Regular acne outbreaks are another sign that a chemical peel can benefit you. Your skin keeps itself hydrated, in part, by producing sebum. Sebum is usually a beneficial type of oil. However, when your skin produces too much sebum, whitehead and blackhead outbreaks can occur.

Peels are great for people who suffer from regular acne outbreaks for several reasons. For instance, certain acids can be incorporated into your peel that reduce sebum production. Also, peels can unclog your pores, making topical anti-acne treatments more effective.

Depending on the strength of the peel you receive, you can peel enough layers of your skin that acne scars disappear. Notably, deep peels can be used to erase other types of scars, too.

If your skin is dull, a chemical peel may be right for you. As noted above, this treatment increases localized collagen production drastically. This doesn’t just volumize the skin to erase wrinkles. It also facilitates cellular turnover. In other words, the dead skin cells that make up the superficial layer of your skin will be replaced by radiant, healthy skin cells.

Peels are special because they don’t just unclog pores. They also shrink enlarged pores, drastically improving your appearance and self-confidence.
