Here at AireMedSpa in Sarasota, FL, we’re proud to offer our patients a wide range of anti-aging treatments. One of the best and most effective of these treatments is Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that’s ideal for those suffering from collagen or volume loss under the skin. Our patients looking for Juvederm Tampa treatments love their results because they look very natural and allow for a smooth, wrinkle-free face.
Choose Juvederm for Effective Anti-Aging
Juvederm has been an FDA-approved dermal filler since 2006. This hyaluronic acid-based cosmetic injectable is one of the most popular because it’s quick, painless, and delivers natural-looking, smooth, and beautiful results. You’ve probably heard of hyaluronic acid before, as it’s a popular ingredient in anti-aging skin creams, but the formula in this treatment is slightly different.
It’s developed with innovative cross-stitching technology, making the results of this treatment far more effective than other cosmetic fillers available today.
How Does This Treatment Work?
Juvederm works by dispensing the hyaluronic acid formula deep into the skin’s layers. Hyaluronic acid is one of the many fibers, proteins, and chemical compounds naturally produced by the body to keep the skin smooth, tight, and wrinkle-free. Another compound you’ve probably heard of before is collagen, which is also naturally produced by the body.
Unfortunately, collagen production begins to decrease around age 25. The unique hyaluronic acid formula in this treatment works to fill in those gaps in the skin where there’s less collagen and even helps promote the production of new collagen. This provides immediate, natural-looking, and long-lasting results that can reduce or even erase deep wrinkles and volume loss around the mouth, smoothing the skin and plumping up the areas that need it.
What Else Can It Be Used For?
One of the best benefits of this treatment is that it has many potential uses. Here at AireMedSpa, our patients often point out the horizontal frown lines and wrinkles from the corners of their mouths as an area of concern. This isn’t the only area where it can be used, though. It can also treat and effectively eliminate other wrinkles, lines, and folds on the face that are caused by a lack of collagen.
Are Dermal Fillers Painful?
One of the best parts about getting a dermal filler treatment is that it is virtually painless. While some dermal fillers don’t contain any local anesthetic in their formula, our Juvederm Tampa treatments include a small amount of lidocaine to make the process pain-free. Since the lidocaine is contained within the formula itself, there’s no waiting for a local or topical anesthetic to kick in.
Lidocaine is also one of the safest anesthetics to use, and it wears off in 15 minutes, which means there’s no lingering numbness to worry about. It’s also completely safe to operate a vehicle after lidocaine is injected, unlike other, stronger pain medications. After the treatment, you can get right back to your normal life and schedule.
What Should You Expect During a Dermal Filler Treatment?
Here at AireMedSpa, our patient’s safety is a top priority. Before your treatment, the targeted areas will be cleaned and sanitized to eliminate the risk of infection. Before Dr. Walters begins the treatment, she will also remove any makeup or cosmetics on your face. So, if you want to save some time, show up to your appointment barefaced if possible.
Once Dr. Walters removes any makeup and sanitizes the injection site, she uses a sterile needle to inject the treatment formula into the lines around the mouth or other targeted treatment area. Depending on how deep or numerous the lines are, some patients may need more than one treatment. Typically, moderate lines need one treatment, and deeper lines need about two.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Generally, Juvederm treatments last around a year, but it depends on how healthy your skin is. The healthier and better condition your skin is in, the longer the results will last. However, there are some ways you can actually extend the effects of your treatment to make it last even longer.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
One of the most important ways you can extend the results of your treatment is to avoid direct sunlight, at least during the hours of 10 am to 4 pm. Sunlight is full of harmful UV rays that can damage your skin, just like how you get a sunburn when you’re outside for too long without sunscreen.
However, the worst of those UV rays are UVC, which can actually weaken collagen and ultimately cause wrinkles. The sun’s rays are strongest around midday, so try to avoid being in the direct sunlight during these hours if at all possible. Or, wear a wide-brimmed hat that will help you cover up and get some shade when you are outside.
Wear High SPF Sunscreen
It’s unrealistic to think that you can avoid sunlight forever after you’ve had this treatment. Luckily, there is an option: wearing high SPF sunscreen. However, the sunscreen you choose must be broad-spectrum, as it’s the only kind that protects against those harmful, collagen-weakening UVC rays. Be sure to apply the sunscreen at least every two to four hours for maximum protection.
Stay Hydrated
Another critical piece of advice for extending your dermal filler treatment results is to keep your body adequately hydrated. It’s easy to become dehydrated if you don’t consume enough fluids throughout the day—and soda doesn’t count! Even with moisturizer, dehydrated skin won’t produce collagen as quickly, and any existing collagen will age much faster. Try to drink at least a gallon of water every day, which helps your body produce more collagen and keeps your skin hydrated, smooth, and healthy.
What Should You Do Before a Dermal Filler Treatment?
Another great part of getting a Juvederm Tampa treatment is that there’s almost no preparation required as long as you’re healthy and a suitable candidate. However, it’s essential to stop drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes for a couple of weeks before your treatment. If you just balked at seeing the words “quit smoking for two weeks,” then you must abstain from smoking for at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Suitable candidates for this treatment include healthy adults who are at least 22 years of age and want to reverse volume loss and erase wrinkles and deep lines. However, most of our clients are at least 30 since the body still produces enough collagen until about age 25.
It’s not until around age 30 that treating collagen loss and volume loss becomes necessary. Once you reach age 65, certain medical conditions could exclude you from being a suitable candidate for Juvederm Tampa treatments. If you are 65 or older and interested in this treatment, Dr. Walters can discuss your options with you as long as you’re healthy.
Who Isn’t a Suitable Candidate?
People who are allergic to lidocaine are not suitable candidates for this treatment. However, other medical conditions can preclude you from receiving this treatment since it includes lidocaine. If you have heart conditions, kidney disease, liver disease, or a gluten sensitivity, you might not be a suitable candidate. This treatment is also not ideal for anybody who is currently pregnant, nursing, or actively trying to become pregnant.
