If you’re wanting similar results to a surgical facelift but aren’t ready for that kind of surgery, PDO threads may be the treatment you’ve been looking for. Our team at Aire MedSpa in Sarasota, FL, is thrilled to offer this treatment to help our patients turn back the effects of time on their skin.
How Long Do PDO Threads Last?
One to Two Years
PDO threads can be expected to deliver impressive benefits throughout an entire year. Many patients are even able to enjoy two years of powerful results.
There are some individual factors, such as skin health and condition, that can slightly affect your timeline. During a consultation, we can go over your unique needs and can give you a more specific idea of what you may be able to expect in your case.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
Even the busiest schedules can accommodate the 45 to 60 minutes this treatment typically takes. As it has the added benefit of no downtime, you can expect amazing results with minimal hassle.
What Does the Process Involve?
First, the threads will be guided to the right location under your skin, where they will anchor themselves. Then our staff will gently “tighten” the threads, effectively lifting and contouring the skin of your face. That’s it! It’s a remarkably simple process.
There are several different thread options to choose from. If you go for Levo, or barbed threads, you can expect instant and significant results as it battles back wrinkles and signs of aging. Smuth, or smoothing threads are primarily used for skin texture concerns. The goal of these threads are to improve skin quality and texture for up to a month.
How Does It Work?
These threads are made of a safe, absorbable material. They are physically used to lift sagging areas of the face and smooth out wrinkles. That may be pretty great, but that’s not all PDO threads can do. The treatment process will help stimulate collagen production throughout your face, which plays a huge role in supporting the skin’s elasticity, texture, and strength.
As collagen production declines, the face shows more effects of aging. After these threads have been absorbed by the body, your collagen production can continue to function at a higher rate than before the treatment. This will continue to rejuvenate your face throughout the rest of the treatment period.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Forehead
Foreheads play a central role in a lot of the expressions we make. Any time we squint to see something, furrow our brows in confusion, scowl, or raise our eyebrows in surprise and excitement, we’re using the muscles around our forehead. The more often a facial muscle is used, the faster wrinkle development tends to be in that area.
Sun exposure plays another role in hastening aging skin. That said, even with the best skin-care practices, we can’t delay wrinkles forever. Eventually the passage of time takes its toll, and the forehead may begin to look heavy and develop permanent lines. This treatment helps lighten the face by gently lifting the brow, and it can smooth out those wrinkles for a more youthful complexion.
Eyebrows
Another area of the face that’s heavily used for expressions are our eyes and eyebrows. Some of the very first signs of aging can start to appear as fine lines around these areas. These lines can eventually develop into deeper wrinkles.
The skin supporting your eyebrows can also grow “heavy” with age, causing them to sink closer to the eyes. By lifting the affected skin, it can “open up” your expression and give you a more alert and vibrant appearance.
Eye Bags
The under-eye area can be a bit tricky to find a good treatment for, as the skin around our eyes is thin and delicate. The good news is a thread lift can reduce the appearance of eye bags by gently smoothing out the area. This smoothing effect helps reduce the appearance of bags and lines under the eyes.
Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines
These folds start right behind the nose and can reach down to or past the mouth. Marionette lines are very similar, but are located at each corner of the mouth and go down to the jaw. Both can become fairly pronounced folds, and can be greatly improved with PDO threads.
Jowls
When skin no longer has the structure or strength it needs to resist the pull of gravity, it will begin to lose its proper shape. A common sign of aging is a loss of skin elasticity and structure, which can result in loose skin extending from the chin or jawline to the neck. That loose skin is often referred to as “jowls.”
If you have experienced rapid weight loss, you may experience jowls prematurely. We can help your skin regain that strength and structure by lifting the jowls and encouraging collagen production throughout the area.
The Neck
The neck can age just as quickly as the face, developing lines and wrinkles of its own. In fact, the neck may age faster in cases where a patient may have remembered to protect their face from the sun, but forgot to consistently put sunscreen on their neck too.
Lines can be both horizontal and vertical, and loose skin is a common concern. A thread lift can be an excellent solution for any of these issues.
Benefits
Natural-Looking Results
Our team takes pride in providing results that look natural. Some patients are afraid of looking artificial after treatment, but your results should look just like you stepped back in time. This treatment can be used to compliment the natural structure of your face as it lifts and smooths skin in strategic areas.
Gentle Process
This treatment is both fast and gentle on the body. You won’t have to worry about taking extra time to recover. Many patients are too busy to reorganize their whole month around a recovery period, which is part of what makes this treatment so appealing. You can get a treatment that’s gentle on your body and still get great results from it.
Immediate Results
With many cosmetic treatments, there’s a period of time the patient has to wait before they can see their results. A thread lift is able to show you visible benefits right away. Additionally, since this treatment stimulates collagen, over several months those first results should continue to get better with time.
This quick action is one reason it can work great for patients who have an upcoming event they want to look their best for. If that’s you, let us know when your event is so we can go over your timeline and give you our recommendation of when you should schedule your treatment.
No Surgery Needed
A surgical facelift can be a good fit for some patients, but it’s not a viable option for everyone. A patient may be looking to boost their self-esteem and improve signs of aging without having to resort to surgery. A patient may also not want or be able to face a long recovery period. Some patients have health concerns that make them unable to safely get surgical facelifts, while others are keeping their budget in mind.
No matter the reason, if you want some of the same benefits a surgical facelift can offer, PDO threads can be an excellent alternative for a wide range of people.
No Scars
A skilled surgeon can usually hide facelift scars along the hairline and around the ears, but not every patient is thrilled about the idea of any scarring. Some patients worry that they’ll be self-conscious about scars, or fear that they’ll have to accommodate the scars with certain hairstyles.
With a thread lift, we use tiny injection sites instead of incisions. That means you won’t have to worry about surgical scarring.
You Can Use It as a Test Run
If you do think you’d like a surgical facelift in the future, but want to get a “sneak peek” at what your results could look like, PDO threads can be a way to ease into the idea without a lifelong commitment.
Since this treatment offers long-lasting, but not permanent results, a patient can have peace of mind about trying out this gentle process to see if a surgical facelift may be worth it to them in the future.
